• The Therapeutic Process
This week-long program offers a complete introduction to the Sandplay Therapy process as devised by Dora Kalff, Jungian Analyst, friend and colleague of CG Jung.
It covers the SOURCE CONCEPTS of Sandplay Therapy by Ms Kalff as she researched and refined her therapeutic process, and differentiates her teachings and generic expressive therapies. The Jungian lexicon will be introduced, and the nexus of conscious and unconscious processes outlined, encompassing the role of symbolic material in the activation of self-healing and growth. Integration, similarities, and difference with other therapeutic modalities will be demonstrated.
ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS of Sandplay Therapy practice will be revealed, including introduction to clients, building a collection, documentation, record-keeping. The Therapist’s holding role in the temenos of the Sandplay Therapy process will be defined and explored. Clinical considerations of attachment and its echoes in the Sandplay process will be outlined, supported by recent and relevant neuroscience findings.
The THERAPEUTIC PROCESS, its movement and meaning, stages and structure, and psychological renewal will be developed and amplified by illustrations from sandplay case material. Participants will learn varying approaches for appreciation of sandplays and sandplayers, including those canvassed by Dr. Martin Kalff. Sandplays as they relate to clients’ presenting clinical issues will be considered, with case materials. Examples will be related to Jungian thought, the activation of self-healing, and the individuation process. Clinical experience will be reviewed.
The training of the Therapist, including elements towards Certification, the importance of one’s Personal Process, clinical co-transference, symbolic thinking, case presentation and supervision will be outlined.
Throughout this program the Therapist’s theoretical, heart-felt and sensory acuity will develop. Privileging the client and the confidence to serve will imbue subsequent clinical work.
